Egocasting. That was the name of an article we featured here several years ago. Now the AOL-owned media player Winamp has enabled mobile egocasting through Winamp Mobile. Through a relationship with media streamer, ORB.com, you can now use your smart phone to log into any computer running the remote software and stream music, videos, podcasts.
I’ve been using Winamp remote since last fall. It’s perfect for listening to station podcasts while on a jog. I can set my podcast scheduler to pick up updates instantly from the morning show or news stories or interview and simply access them all on-the-fly on my jog or in the car via my HTC Touch Pro phone.
As consumers adopt smartphones, mobile streaming and opportunities to connect to consumers in different ways will become increasingly valuable tools for broadcasters.
